it was my fault, working with source dimension and parameters i was able to make the simulation work correctly.

Dear Gregorio,

SPIS automatically adjusts the time step to avoid diverging surface potentials. User defined Dt are maximum values, but the time steps may actually be smaller.

Your dt should increase at later time steps. Otherwise it means that the parameters are such that solving the simulation with larger time steps would lead to huge variations of the surface potential, leading to a crash of the simulation.

If you think SPIS is wrong, you can increase the validityRenormalisation parameter (it multiplies the maximum allowed volateg variation). Otherwise you can play with the surface capacitance (CSat parameter for conductors, or material thickness for dielectrics)

Hello to all,

I'm simulating a simple spacecraft (cube) with a small source (disk) using the globalParameter-5.1.0 settings.

I set the following simulation control settings:

  • duration: 1.0 s
  • SimulationDtInit: 1.0E-4 s
  • SimulationDt: 0.01 s
During the run of the simulation i noticed that simulation dt starts at 1E-14 s instead of 1.0E-4.

Does anyone know what is the cause of this problem or what parameters i can operate to solve it?
